Silent Film Comedy: Safety Last[01/11/2018]
Liberty Center to Host Silent Film Event with Live Accompaniment by Richard Dowling
The Liberty Center Association for the Arts, Inc. is hosting a silent film comedy titled “Safety Last” by Harold Loyd. The movies begin at 6:30 p.m. on January 30, 2018 and will feature live accompaniment by Richard Dowling. Tickets are $10 each or $12 at the door.
Dowling, of New York City, has been hailed by The New York Times as an especially impressive fine pianist. He appears regularly across the United States and recently performed in two historic sold-out recitals at Carnegie Hall.
Safety Last is a 1923 film by master comedian Harold Lloyd. In the film, hilarity ensues when a boy (Harold Lloyd) moves to New York City to make enough money to support his loving girlfriend (Mildred Davis), but soon discovers that making it in the big city is not as easy as it looks. He learns that a store manager will pay $1,000 to anyone who can draw people to his store. So he convinces his friend, the "human fly," (Bill Strother) to climb the building. But when his pal gets in trouble with the law, he must complete the crazy stunt on his own.
The silent film matinee is only $10 per person or $12 at the door. Tickets are now available at the Liberty Center, 111 West 5th Street, by calling (660) 827-3228, or via e-mail at email@example.com. They will also be available the night of the show.
This event sponsored by Wilken Music, the Cooney Endowment for the Arts, Missouri Arts Council, Sedalia Tourism Commission.
The Liberty Center culturally enriches the Sedalia area through quality arts programming and by providing an historic arts destination as a space for people to come together and celebrate the arts. Funding for the LCAA is provided in part by the Missouri Arts Council.
