Next Stage Capital Campaign

On December 12, 2013, the Liberty Center Association for the Arts, Inc. kicked off "The Next Stage" Capital Campaign at the historic Hotel Bothwell. Once completed, the campaign will provide funds to renovate the old Liberty Theatre and add an Arts Center to the west side of the existing facility. Sedalia philanthropist, business man, and civic leader, Joe Fischer helped launch the campaign with a $100,000 challenge grant.

The goal of the campaign is to raise 1 million dollars in cash and pledges over a two year period, with $700,000 anticipated in the first year. Work on the new Liberty Arts Center is expected to begin later this year.

  • The Liberty Arts Center - a 90-foot long addition to the building that will include three art galleries, new restrooms, and make the theatre auditorium handicapped accessible. The new center will serve as the main focal point of Sedalia's Arts Mecca.

  • The Liberty Theatre - a total renovation of the soon to be 100-year-old facility will include structural repairs, a new stage, a new fly system, make the building ADA compliant, and renovate the reception and lounge areas of the building.
The campaign will include financing to allow the giver to make six annual tax-deductible payments from 2014 through 2020 which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the original Lona (now Liberty) Theatre.

The Liberty Center represents a consolidation of the Sedalia Area Arts Council, the Liberty Center, and the Sedalia Community Theatre. The LCAA offers help and support to the Sedalia Symphony, the Sedalia Concert Band, the Sedalia Chorale, and the Sedalia Visual Arts Associations.

The Liberty Center turns 100 in 2020.
We are asking Sedalia to capitalize on its proud 'arts history' by supporting a campaign that will renovate the existing Liberty Theatre and add an Art Center on to a historic facility that, when completed, will be the centerpiece of an 'Arts Mecca' that has long been recognized as the "Queen of the Prairie."
